Everyone can read here.
This site is for adults who are struggling. It should never be one more thing that is hard to use. Here is what we do, and how you can tell us what we missed.
Reading preferences
Pick what works for you. Changes happen right away and stay with you from page to page.
How this site is built
Clear and plain
Short sentences, plain words, and headings that tell you where you are.
Easy on the eyes
Strong contrast between text and background, and no flashing or auto-playing media.
Keyboard friendly
A skip link at the top, large tap targets, and forms with clear labels.
Works on any screen
Pages adjust for phones and tablets, and you can zoom without losing content.
Your device can help too
- Zoom: press Ctrl and + (Windows) or Command and + (Mac), or pinch on a phone.
- Reader view: most browsers can strip a page down to plain text. Look for the reader icon in the address bar.
- Read aloud: your phone and computer can read pages aloud. Look in your accessibility settings for Spoken Content or a screen reader.
- Contrast and color: use your device's dark mode, high contrast or color filter settings.
About the fonts: Easy-read uses Atkinson Hyperlegible, made by the Braille Institute for clear letter shapes. Dyslexia-friendly uses OpenDyslexic, an open font. Research on whether special fonts help is mixed, and larger text with more spacing helps many people more. That is why it is your choice.
Still learning
We aim to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. We are a new site, and we are still testing with assistive technology. If something does not work for you, we want to know.
Tell us what got in the way, which page it was on, and what device or tool you use. We read every message. If you need something in another format, such as large print or plain text, ask and we will do our best to provide it.
