Someone who gets it.
Your supporter has lived through hard things too. They are not here to fix you. They are here to listen, and to walk beside you.
Lived experience is the credential.
A peer supporter uses their own experience of struggle to listen and show that growth is possible. No clipboard. No script. No diagnosis. Our founders have completed Peer Support Specialist training and are working toward certification.
They listen
You lead. Say as much or as little as you want. There is no wrong way to do this.
They don't fix
No lectures, no advice you didn't ask for, no one right answer.
They walk with you
In the room, in the gym, or on the line. Beside you, not above you.
They keep showing up
Support is a relationship, not a transaction. Your supporter keeps showing up, adjusts as things change, and celebrates with you when you find your footing.
The people behind it.
Lifting gave James somewhere to put everything he carried, without hurting anyone. What he didn't have was someone to talk to who understood. That is what he is building now.
A mother of two, a survivor, and an advocate who built anyway. She leads the day-to-day work and the direction of Skorpion Strength, and sees the whole person, not the label.
What we hold to
Rooted in lived experience
We have been there. We have lived it. Our experience is how we listen, and why we believe growth is possible.
Mutuality
Two people on equal footing. Support goes both ways, and nobody stands above anyone.
Respect for boundaries
Yours and ours. You decide what to share and when to stop. Supporters keep clear limits, so the space stays safe for everyone.
Your choice, your pace
No pressure, no deadlines, no required steps. Talk, move, or both.
Hope
Recovery and growth are possible, and we have seen it. We carry hope when you cannot.
No judgment
Everybody has a story. Yours is yours.
Every supporter, every session.
What a supporter always does
- Starts from your strengths
- Lets you lead
- Keeps what you say private, within the safety exception
- Tells you the limits of confidentiality before you share
- Stops the workout the moment you ask
What a supporter never does
- Diagnoses or gives medical advice
- Makes it about their own story
- Ranks your pain against anyone else's
- Pushes beliefs or answers on you
- Shares your story
You can ask for someone who shares more of your experience.
If you want to be paired with someone who shares more of your specific experience, tell us and we will make it happen. If you don't, you are never required to be matched that way. And if it's not a good fit, you can ask for someone different at any time. No explanation needed. See our Belong Pledge.
