Questions

Good questions.

Straight answers, no jargon. If yours is not here, ask us.

Is this therapy or treatment?
No. Skorpion Strength is non-clinical peer support. Your supporter is not a therapist, counselor or doctor, and does not diagnose, treat or give medical advice. Many people use peer support alongside therapy or medical care, and we encourage that.
What is peer support?
Peer support is a non-clinical approach where people with shared lived experience come together as equals to give and receive emotional, social and practical support. Your supporter has been through hard things too and uses that experience to listen and walk beside you.
Do I have to do the workout?
No. Peer support comes first and matters most. The workout is optional. You can choose peer support only, peer support then a workout, peer support during a workout, or a workout only. You can also change your mind mid-session.
Do I need to be fit, or have a diagnosis or referral?
No to all three. You do not need a fitness level, a diagnosis or a referral. If you are an adult and you are struggling, you belong here.
Who is it for?
Adults who are struggling: stress, anger, anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, addiction, trauma, burnout, or a rough season that has no name. We do not rank pain.
Is it free? What does it cost?
Pricing is not set yet. We are building a sliding scale and funded options, because money should never be the reason someone does not get support. Join the waitlist and we will tell you as soon as we know.
When do sessions open?
Sessions open once our certification is complete. Until then, the Book page is a waitlist: leave your name and a way to reach you, and we will tell you the moment sessions open.
Is what I say private?
Yes, within the safety exception. Your supporter does not share your story, and tells you the limits of confidentiality before you share anything. The exception is when someone is in immediate danger. Read more on the Safety and Privacy page.
What if I'm in crisis right now?
Skorpion Strength is not an emergency or crisis service. Call or text 988, or call 911 if someone is in danger. More numbers are on our Resources page.
Who are the supporters?
People who have lived through struggle and use that experience to support others. Our founders have completed Peer Support Specialist training and are working toward certification. Meet them on the Your Supporters page.
Can I choose who I'm paired with?
Yes. If you want someone who shares more of your specific experience, tell us and we will make it happen. If you do not, you are never required to be matched that way. If it is not a good fit, you can ask for someone different at any time, with no explanation needed.
Is it in person or online?
Both. Online, we are here for people in every state. In person, we currently serve Douglas, Sarpy, Saunders and Dodge counties in Nebraska. As we grow, we plan to expand to additional states.
What happens in the first session?
No interrogation. We reply, find a time, and you show up as you are. You can talk, move, or both. One open question: what do you want your supporter to know about you? You decide what to share.
Can I bring someone with me?
Talk to us first. Some people want a friend or family member nearby, and we will work out what feels right for you and for them.
Can someone sign me up?
No. Peer support only works when you choose it. A loved one can tell you about us, and can get support of their own, but joining is always your decision. See For Loved Ones.
Can I stop any time?
Yes. You can end a session, pause, or step away for good, any time, for any reason. You never owe an explanation.
What if I need something you do not offer?
We will say so, and help you find it. That might be therapy, a doctor, a recovery program, or a crisis line. Our Resources page is a place to start.
What is the app?
A companion for between sessions, with Daily Cards and a private Journal. It is coming soon. Until then, Daily Cards and The Journal are on this site.
What does Anti-CCI mean?
Anti-CCI™ is our stand against the cold, clinical, institutional feeling many people know from the systems meant to help. Read the full explanation.
Can I volunteer, partner or work with you?
We would love to hear from you. See The Network and Careers, or For Professionals if you refer people to services.
